He was very successful because he knew the secret to being a great businessman and provider for my family. When I reached the age of 14, my father would have me go on the job site with him every weekend. I started by just cleaning up his projects as he would finish them. By the time I was sixteen, I was doing most of his small drywall repair and installation jobs by myself.
It felt great to be along side of my father and learning from someone who not only knew how to do amazing work but was a great teacher of his craft. He taught me that quality and customer service are the first priority in business, not money. He has always said, "when you have integrity in your work, the money comes by itself." In 2007 my father retired and left me with his drywall company. However, I was still young and wanted to show him that I could take the skill set he gave me and start my own company. I struggled to get work in the beginning because I no longer had a client base and reputation. My fathers phone would ring off the hook daily but mine was silent. Being the great father that he is, my dad stepped in and showed me many ways to advertise my new company. I was quickly humbled and working! Now I have 3 crews that work full time, including Saturdays. I have taken my fathers wisdom and created a strong company with quality and integrity as it's main concern, not money. |
